Frontier Airlines To Leave LGB

Frontier will be discontinuing service to Denver International Airport (KDEN) on April 16th. The airline is siting poor load factors as the main reason. The two slots will go into a pool to see which current airline at LGB will get them unless a new airline decides to come to Long Beach. Sun Country Airlines has shown interest in the past about moving their single Minneapolis flight from LAX to LGB but did not show interest this last time slots were available.

Since SY just moved over to T2 at LAX with the NW move out, they might not want to uproot and move again. But I'd drive to LGB to take them rather than fight the mess that is T2.

Despite what one LGB expert says, Sun Country will not apply for a slot - they didn't last time. Too bad about Frontier - I have traveled three times to LGB since they have started service, but their horrible and infrequent schedule either forced me on another carrier or into LAX.

Look for Alaska, American, and AirTran to apply for slots. I think WNs philosophy changes with each merger - it did with Morris, and it will with AirTran - I think they would take one or two slots (737-700 to ATL) especially to get into DL's skin.

I wonder if we see AS jump back in to get the slots. Couldn't you see AS trying to defend ANC this summer? Also, maybe start HNL before G4 gets up and running with its 757s? It wouldn't surprise me at all.

Let's do what we can to get American to come back with flights to DFW and ORD. I think they would have a lot of customers anxious to fill seats on these routes.

I have heard that AS might want to come back here but I don't see AA coming back.
